The goals for fine motor development or skills in the early childhood classroom are to provide opportunities for the development, strengthening and coordination of arms, hands, wrists and finger muscles as well as eye-hand coordination. Fine motor activities promote the skills of holding and controlling a writing implement, painting, cutting with scissors, lacing, buttoning, fastening and unfastening, picking up of and manipulation of small items.
