Language/Literature Activities

One of the most important aspects of a preschooler's learning is language development. It is the basis for all future learning. The language skills and vocabularies of preschool-aged children increase rapidly as they begin using words to name objects and people, and words to describe events and situations in their world. Preschoolers remember and retell stories they have heard and roleplay with extensive vocabularies. In fact, most children of preschool age have a vocabulary of up to 2,000 words. The preschool classroom offers many opportunities for children to practice their language skills through dramatic play experiences, participating with puppets, asking questions, singing, chanting rhymes, listening and developing the ability to communicate with other children during play.
